Rolled her eyes at Time’s #1
Dressed to the nines for the 99th time,
Wishing they would move over
And let Jane Doe have a chance.
She thought if she could look beautiful for a day
She’d feel beautiful for a lifetime,
Finally cognizant
Of her full potential.
Also feared addiction
To fashionable fiction,
Becoming the very person
She rolled her eyes at.
It was bound to backfire either way
As old acquaintances came out of the woodworks
And told her she looked good
To affirm she didn’t before.
So she kept on her jeans and Gene Kelly disposition
Dancing on over to the donut shop
Where she courted temporary pregnancy
Because no one was looking there anyway.
