First-born Son

D. Larissa Peters

It’s his death day

they mark

because that’s the day everything

changed for them.

And—for the rest of us —

daughters left behind.

An aftermath of

“personal Affects”,

the untarnished memory,

odd feelings that

felt misplaced in a 5th grade classroom

— and the laughter

that felt misplaced

at home.
